Japanese studies

Available in Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Arts

Language units

You must complete 18 credit points from the Japanese language sequence under the major, following the entry point guidelines and taken in order.

Entry point 1 - Introductory

If you have little or no knowledge of Japanese you must complete the following units

Entry point 2 - Intermediate

If you have post-VCE competence in Japanese or equivalent you must complete the following units

Entry point 3 - Proficient

18 cp

If you have very high post-VCE competence in Japanese or equivalent you must complete the following units

Entry point 4 - Advanced

18 cp

You must complete the following units if you have advanced competence equivalent to completion of Japanese proficient 2 or higher, including students with a home background in Japanese or who have lived in Japan for at least a year. If you have been educated in Japan to Year 12 level or have similar competence you are not suitable for this stream and should consider taking a minor in International studies or Global Asia, and/or a minor in Japanese studies consisting of post-advanced units.
