What it covers
This unit introduces you to the practical, critical and collaborative dimensions of making exhibitions. As a complement to Curating: Histories and theories, the unit supports you to apply curatorial knowledge through field trips, guest speakers, case studies and the development of an exhibition project. You will examine how Melbourne’s art ecosystem operates and consider innovative and critical approaches to exhibition-making. Through engagement with practising artists, original works of art, sites, audiences and practical production processes, you will develop the skills to plan, justify, communicate and reflect on curatorial decisions. The unit foregrounds ethical, cultural and professional responsibilities, including respect for Indigenous knowledge, culture and values in contemporary curatorial practice.
