What it covers
This unit introduces you to the field of curating and its role within the broader ecology of the art world. You will examine the role of the curator, the work of museums and galleries, and the contributions of staff such as conservators, registrars, installers and other arts workers. Through the study of exhibitions, artworks, institutions and curatorial mediation, you will develop skills in analysing, discussing and communicating curatorial ideas in a variety of formats. The unit also introduces key ethical and socio-cultural issues in curatorial practice, including relationships between curators, artists and audiences, studio visits, and protocols for engaging with Indigenous artists and cultural knowledges.
