What it covers
This unit provides you with the knowledge and skills required to assess, diagnose and develop comprehensive care plan for patients with dermatological and pain conditions. Specifically, this unit will cover common dermatological conditions such as eczema, contact dermatitis, acne, psoriasis and minor burns and wounds, as well as pain-related conditions including headaches and migraine, musculo-skeletal pain, neuralgia, and osteoarthritis. This unit will relate the pathophysiology and epidemiology of these conditions with the rational selection and use of medicines. The chemistry, pharmacology, and clinical aspects of medicines associated with each condition are presented in an integrated fashion. This unit will develop and consolidate pharmacy-professional skills including problem solving, critical thinking and oral and written communication. Drug and non-drug therapy principles for management of dermatological and pain conditions will be emphasized including consideration for patient, cultural and environmental factors that may influence treatment and outcomes. You will develop capabilities necessary to optimize patient outcomes across diverse clinical and cultural settings.
