What it covers
In this unit, you will develop a strong theoretical foundation on how individuals acquire and refine a broad range of movement skills, and how these insights inform practical approaches to sports coaching. The unit will engage you with multiple learning theories, models, and perspectives, including ecological dynamics, motor programming, and Indigenous knowledge systems, particularly those of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in relation to movement learning. You will explore how individual, environmental, and task-related constraints interact dynamically to shape both high-level sporting skills and lifelong physical activity across various contexts. Through practical sessions, you will critically analyse different approaches to teaching and coaching movement, with a particular emphasis on game-based methods, applying these to your own teaching or coaching practices. Additionally, you will plan, deliver, and reflect on the application of a game-based coaching model. The unit will also develop your competency in using ICT for coaching assessments and feedback. By the end of the unit, you will be equipped to plan, facilitate, assess, and critically evaluate a range of movement learning experiences in both sporting and physical activity environments.
