What it covers
This unit aims to help students develop their conceptual and practical understanding of data analytics, numerical algorithms and computational methodologies in the context of Civil Engineering applications. Students will learn the basic concepts, techniques and industry-standard tools that characterise professional data analytics. They will also work in groups on a project to acquire relevant fundamental skills to help them think analytically using data modelling and visualisation to support evidence-based decision-making. The unit will primarily present Civil Engineering problems in a computational setting with emphasis on data science and advanced computational and artificial intelligence techniques. Upon completing this unit, students will have a strong understanding of Python programming and its varied applications for data analytics in Civil Engineering; in addition to statistical analysis, data analytics, interactive and highly customisable data visualisations, artificial intelligence and machine learning applications.
