What it covers
In this unit you will examine the politics of identity: how identities are formed, perceived and politicised, and how identity-related claims shape power, belonging and conflict in modern politics. It traces the historical emergence of identity-based political mobilisation and the conditions through which social identities became bases for collective action, representation and contestation. Across a range of contexts, you will explore how identities are constructed, perceived and mobilised in political life, and how identity-related claims influence political behaviour, institutions and public debate. In doing so, you will be equipped to critically analyse identity-related political arguments, strategies and outcomes.
