What it covers
This unit explores the role that art museums, cultural archives and related collecting institutions have played in preserving, interpreting and contesting cultural heritage. You will learn about the origins of these institutions in Europe, their international spread and development, and the roles they have played in constructing and preserving public memory. You will critically reflect on how museums and archives have been used and understood in different ways over time and across cultures, including non-Western alternatives, Indigenous perspectives, and their importance for the way we live today in Australia.
