Climate and atmospheric science

Available in Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science Advanced - Global Challenges (Honours), Bachelor of Science Advanced - Research (Honours)

Rules for completing this course

You must complete 72 credit points, comprising: - A maximum of four units at Level 1 (24 credit points); and - A minimum of four units at Level 3 (24 credit points). Climate and atmospheric science extended major requirements You must complete 72 credit points, comprising: - 30 credit points of Core units; and - 42 credit points of Additional units.

Core units

30 cp

You must complete five units (30 credit points) from the following list. Note: You complete only one of EAE2011 or EAE2111. You must complete EAE2011 if MTH1030 has not been completed. EAE2111 is recommended if MTH1030 has been completed.

  • EAE1011The Earth system: From the core to the atmosphere6 cp
  • EAE1022The Earth system: Changing environments and climates6 cp
  • EAE2011Environmental problem solving and visualisation6 cp
  • EAE2111Introduction to climate science6 cp
  • EAE2122Introduction to atmospheric physics and dynamics6 cp
  • EAE3111Climate dynamics6 cp

Additional units

42 cp

You must complete seven units (42 credit points) from the following list. Note 1.The completion of these additional units includes all the units from both the Weather and Climate stream, as well as the Climate change science stream, as referenced in the Climate and atmospheric science major. Note 2. You may only complete one of EAE2011 or EAE2111 as an additional unit (the unit previously not completed as part of the core units). Note 3. EAE3121 and EAE3152 have mathematics prerequisites. EAE3121 has mathematics prerequisites of MTH1030, MTH1035 or ENG1005. EAE3152 has mathematics prerequisites of MTH2010, MTH2015 or ENG2005. Note 4. Students enrolled in the double degree E3007 Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Science complete ENG1090 or ENG1005 in place of MTH1030 or MTH1035 to meet the prerequisite for EAE3121 and ENG2005 instead of MTH2010 or MTH2015 to meet the prerequisite for EAE3152. Note 5. Students in Software Engineering specialisation complete ENG1005 as the prerequisite for EAE3121 and MTH2010 as the prerequisite for EAE3152.
